LA PUSH BABY – A DAY IN FORKS
This City Guide is all about my thoughts and honest recommendations on Forks, Washington – including the magic of La Push and one unexpected stop that truly stole the show.
Last fall, my sister Stormy and I spent three cozy weeks in Olympia, Washington. And from the moment we booked the trip, we knew we had to make a Twilight-inspired road trip to Forks happen. It was non-negotiable – a teenage dream that had to be lived out.
We mapped it out: about three hours each way. Through the Olympic National Park. Through the rainforest. Through the very landscape that gave Twilight its iconic gloomy magic. One day. There and back. No overnight stay. Because frankly, the thought of driving through dense forest roads in the dark? Absolutely not.
So we packed our essentials – bagels and cream cheese from Trader Joe’s (obviously), two venti Starbucks drinks, and Stormy’s carefully curated Twilight Spotify playlist. That was the soundtrack of our teenage years, and now it was the soundtrack of the road trip. We were giddy. Laughing. Manifesting a full-on Bella Swan moment.
And what we were about to experience? Let’s just say… it wasn’t what we expected.
ENCHANTED FOREST
Somewhere on that long road leading toward Forks – maybe 30 minutes before the town – we saw a sign for a little trail. Nothing official, just one of those places that whispers pull over and explore. So we did. With zero expectations, we parked, stepped out, and followed the trail into the trees.
And suddenly – we were in an enchanted forest.
There’s no better word for it. It felt like we’d stepped through a portal. Towering trees. Moss-covered branches. That thick, mysterious silence that only the Pacific Northwest can offer. It was stunning – untouched and cinematic. And then… we heard the ocean. A distant roar, calling us forward.
We followed the sound.

LA PUSH BEACH
And just like that – the forest opened up, and there it was. La Push Beach.
We didn’t find it through a map or a plan. We discovered it, almost by accident, and it made the moment feel all the more magical. The beach was raw, wild, and completely unfiltered. There were barely any people. The sun was soft. The sea air felt ancient. And for a moment, we just stood there – quiet, grateful, completely immersed.
It was perfect.

FORKS – A REALITY CHECK
Back in the car, still high on La Push magic, we finally reached our destination: Forks, Washington.
Lovers… fasten your seat belts. Because this is where the fantasy starts to fade. Forks was… a letdown.
I’m just going to say it. It felt more like a sleepy suburb than a town. Two overpriced souvenir shops, a few signs with Twilight quotes, Bella’s red truck (which honestly was pretty cute)… and that was it.
There was no real atmosphere. No fog. No cozy small-town charm. It didn’t feel like the books or the movies. The photos I’m sharing in this post? They’re the only remotely Twilight-esque moments we captured.
I know it’s a bucket list thing for fans. I know. And I don’t regret going – because the laughs we shared, the dreamy drive, and our little forest-beach detour were worth it all. But if I’m being honest? Forks itself felt like a tourist trap built on nostalgia. And not even a convincing one.

Would I recommend going to Forks? Only if you manage your expectations. Go for the experience. Go for the memories. But don’t go expecting a romantic, misty, brooding Edward Cullen town. You’ll find that energy in the forest and at La Push – not in the city.
So if you’re ever in the Pacific Northwest and thinking about making the trip, here’s my honest advice:
Spend more time in the enchanted woods. Let the rain forest swallow you whole. Listen to the ocean at La Push. Feel the real magic there. And don’t forget to bring snacks, good music, and someone you can laugh with when things don’t live up to the Pinterest board.
All my love,
K.J.K.
