ARE WE LOSING THE BEAUTY FOR DETAIL ?
Where else would you find me on a crisp Sunday afternoon if not at the V&A? That day, I spent a minute there to discover some of the art. Not only was the theatre beautiful, but something was in the air that felt very nostalgic and romantic to me. So I took my time and wandered around when something beautiful happened.

I have such admiration for those who made art like this. It seems nearly unbelievable that humans were able to build buildings like this, make such delicate statues, or put their souls into paintings. I walked through the centuries when I realized something. This might sound controversial, but from my perspective, over the years, art loses its charm. Not in a way that it’s no longer art, but isn’t it interesting to see how modern art and modern buildings are so clean and minimalistic that they seem as if there isn’t really a person behind them who crafted them? This thought led me to a theory.
What is it that makes the difference in art? And then it was crystal clear to me. The person who made the art had a different vision of what they were doing. Art is a reflection of the mind and the thoughts because every piece starts with a thought. The minds before social media were not so poisoned with all the meaningless facts and were free to make this kind of beauty and to see the beauty in detail. Have we lost beauty in detail?
After my solo walk tour, I ended my visit with a lemon-ginger tea and finished my current book. In this setting, I recognized something.
When was the last time you spent time alone?
Now again, when was the last time you spent time alone?
There is a major difference between spending time alone and consciously spending time alone. Did you check your phone or watch a show, or did you really spend time with yourself and become aware of the time you spent? What I have experienced is that when you actually spend time alone, you tend to be calm. When you give your brain the honor of being present with no other person but yourself, something wonderful happens. You are awake. You are in the moment. And this is something so beautiful. You do not feel the need to share what you are doing with everyone, not searching for the next thing to buy, not wasting time on your phone. I have been there. That is why I can tell and promise you, once you enjoy and embrace spending time alone, there is nothing anyone could ever take away from you.
Think about it. When you spend time alone and give yourself your full attention, you cherish yourself. How powerful is it to say no? The relationship you have with yourself is the only thing that will last forever and is the only constant in your life. So fill your cup first. Do not try to impress. Do not hide yourself. Do not please. Do not stress. Let tomorrow figure itself out. And this is a note to myself too. Frustration is the only thing holding you back. Life is good.
All my love,
– K.J.K.
