MARIE ANTOINETTE
Last Sunday I took full use of my V&A membership and had the best Sunday. It was the perfect solo date, and I got to see the Marie Antoinette exhibition. It was so beautiful, and I definitely cannot gatekeep some of the beautiful insights of the pieces I saw.

THE WEDDING GOWN

There were so many lovely pieces in this exhibition, and I loved the storytelling of it. I have to put the spotlight on one of the pieces that drew me in, and I kept on standing there for a while just admiring this piece of art. Because it is not only a wedding gown – it is literally art and says so much about the time, the worldview, the beauty standards, the eye for detail, and so much more. What I loved about it was that I admired it and that it made me think and visualize the life she was having.
This wedding gown was the one of Duchess Hedvig Elisabeth Charlotta (1774), the future Queen of Sweden. It is a copy of the dress worn by Marie Antoinette’s sister-in-law for the wedding at Versailles in 1773.
To me, this gown is just breathtaking.

There is so much more to see, and I genuinely recommend this exhibition. If you have the possibility to see it, do not wait a second – do it. In the middle of the exhibition, I stopped myself from discovering more of the beautiful pieces, because this will not be the last time I will be there, and I wanted to save a few items on display to give them more attention when I visit with my mum in December. And maybe there will follow more blog posts about more thoughts and details of this exhibition.
All my loves,
-K.J.K.
